How much does a small business website cost in Australia?
Studio SOL /
A website can cost a few hundred dollars or tens of thousands. Both might be called a business website, but they're rarely the same thing.
The useful question isn't just what a website costs. It's what your business actually needs it to do.
Why website prices vary
A five-page website for a local service business is a different project from an online store, booking platform or custom application.
Price changes with the scope: the number of unique page layouts, design complexity, content preparation, integrations, ecommerce functionality and how much strategy is involved.
A straightforward website that introduces a business, explains its services and makes enquiries easy can be a much smaller engagement than a site with advanced systems.
What does a five-page website include?
A typical five-page business website might include a homepage, About page, Services page, Work or Testimonials page and Contact page.
That isn't the only possible structure. A business with several important services may benefit from separate service pages. A business that sells online will have different needs again.
The important thing is that visitors can understand what you offer, decide whether you're right for them and take the next step.
The upfront price isn't the whole cost
When comparing website quotes, look beyond the build fee.
Ask what happens after launch. Who hosts the website? Who makes changes? Is support included? Are there recurring platform costs? What happens when you need another page or feature?
A cheaper upfront price can still lead to additional costs later. A more expensive build isn't automatically better either.
Compare the actual deliverables and ongoing responsibilities.

How to choose the right website
Start with the job your website needs to do.
If you need a professional presence, clear service information and a reliable enquiry path, a focused business website may be enough.
If you need ecommerce, advanced bookings, custom integrations or a larger content structure, those requirements should be scoped before comparing prices.
Ask any designer what is included, what isn't, who supplies the content and what ongoing support looks like.
A clear scope is more useful than an impressive-looking price without detail.
A simpler starting point
You don't need to build everything at once. Start with the pages and functionality your business actually needs, then develop the site as your needs change.
Studio SOL builds focused websites for Australian small businesses, with a defined upfront offer and ongoing care.
