How much does a custom brand mascot cost?

Studio SOL /

A brand mascot can be a simple illustration or a complete character system. Those are very different projects.

When comparing prices, it helps to understand what you're actually getting.

What affects mascot design costs?

The scope of the character makes a difference.

A single static illustration requires less development than a mascot with multiple expressions, poses, reference views and a consistent visual system.

Other factors include the complexity of the style, the number of concepts, revision rounds, intended uses and any animation or three-dimensional production.

Usage and ownership terms also matter, so they should be clear before work begins.

A mascot is more than one pose

A character becomes more useful when it can appear in different situations without losing its identity.

Reference views help maintain consistent proportions and details.

Expressions help communicate personality.

Poses make the character adaptable to different messages, products and applications.

A character guide helps future artwork stay consistent.

What can a business use a mascot for?

A mascot might appear on packaging, a website, merchandise, advertising creative, social graphics or printed materials.

Some businesses use a mascot as a recurring visual personality. Others use it for a specific product or campaign.

The right design starts with understanding what the character needs to do.

What's included in SOL Character Creation?

SOL Character Creation is A$3,500 upfront.

The package includes discovery and creative direction, two initial concepts and one final original 2D mascot.

It also includes front, side and three-quarter reference views, six expressions, four poses, a colour palette, a character reference guide and suitable final files.

Two refinement rounds are included.

The estimated delivery timeframe is two to four weeks.

Animation, rigging, 3D modelling, additional characters and complex scenes are quoted separately.

What happens after the character is finished?

A mascot can keep developing.

SOL Character Club is an optional A$250 monthly service for two simple new character assets, such as expressions, poses or seasonal adaptations.

The ongoing service helps keep the character visually consistent as new uses emerge.

Choose the character system you need

Before commissioning a mascot, think about where it will appear, how often you'll use it and whether it needs to evolve.

A single illustration may be enough for one purpose. A reusable character system makes more sense when the mascot will become part of your brand's ongoing identity.
